With school out of session we know that is often a challenge to keep your children busy with activity. Autism Speaks Beyond the Beltway is our new program initiative that encourages citizens to begin to build or improve relationships with their elected representatives in the United States Congress. We know how difficult it can be for our families and advocates to pack up and head to Washington, DC. But you can help right where you live!
Now here is the fun part… We are launching a "Yankee Doodle" campaign to engage kids with autism and their siblings in a summer art project to teach them about advocacy and involve them as well! We are asking parents to work with your kids to draw patriotic pictures and then write letters thanking your Congressmembers. Ask them to co-sponsor Autism CARES, which would dedicate over $1.3 billion in new federal funding for autism research and supports for people living with autism. Print out one of these images below or make your own!
Visit here for the facts you need to know to get involved to help PASS the 2014 Autism CARES Act. Your voice matters and together we can work to get Washington to listen and sign on to help those affected by autism, but we need YOU to take ACTION! Find out who your Members of Congress are here! Who doesn’t love cute little letters written in crayon by kids? If your kids are old enough to write a couple of sentences asking their Members to support the legislation, have them write a simple letter and put it in an envelope!
Once your doodle is prepared, swing by their office to drop it off personally and say hello! We’d love to see photos and hear about you and how your family advocated! Please email us at ASBTB2014@gmail.com
