2025 Autism by the Numbers Annual Report now live
April 9, 2025Autism Speaks has released its 2025 Autism by the Numbers Annual Report, the latest edition of a data-driven resource that offers a comprehensive look at the experiences of autistic people and their families across the United States.
This year’s report builds on the foundation of the inaugural 2023 edition, with updated national and state-level data on autism prevalence, age of diagnosis, early intervention, educational outcomes, employment, healthcare access, co-occurring conditions and more. It includes new insights into unmet healthcare needs, school disciplinary practices and employment outcomes for autistic adults receiving vocational rehabilitation services.
“Each data point in this report represents real people navigating systems that aren't always designed with them in mind,” said Andy Shih, Chief Science Officer at Autism Speaks. “Autism by the Numbers is first and foremost a resource for autistic people and their families—so they can make informed decisions and advocate for what they need. It also gives policymakers, providers, educators and researchers the data they need to better support the community.”
Key findings from the 2025 report include:
- One in 9 children with autism (11%) aren’t getting the healthcare they need, pointing to a serious gap in access to proper care.
- Most eligible autistic people are enrolling in job training programs—8 out of 10, in fact—but only half are landing jobs.
- 1 in 4 families with an autistic child struggle with food or housing insecurity.
- Nearly 7% of autistic students in special education drop out of high school, showing that schools need stronger support systems to help these students stay on track.
The report is available as a downloadable PDF, with expanded insights accessible through an interactive Dashboard and detailed state profiles.
