Gifts that provide you income

What is a Charitable Remainder Trust (CRT)?

A Charitable Remainder Trust provides you or your designated beneficiaries with a stream of income for your lifetime or theirs, or for a specific or term of years. After the trust terminates, the accumulated principal, or “remainder,” goes to Autism Speaks. The trust itself is tax-exempt, so appreciated assets such as stock, can be put in the trust and sold without incurring capital gains tax. A CRT can provide income for life or a term of years to the donor and any beneficiaries for life or a term of years. The payment can be fixed (annuity trust) or variable, based on year-end market value of trust (unitrust).
