Daily, I receive requests from amazing individuals that want to use their participation in a race to Team Up with Autism Speaks. Team Up with Autism Speaks is a place where athletes go to run, cycle, swim to raise money for Autism Speaks. Recently it has become a reoccurring theme that individuals in the military serving thousands of miles away want to be a part of something greater than just running. In January a military father of a child with autism ran as an honorary member of Autism Speaks at the Tinker Bell Half Marathon will serving in Yeman. He received all the race organizers’ offered including a finisher’s medal. Just this week, I received another amazing request from a father serving in Afghanistan that he is going to run 26.2 mile in conjunction with the Boston Marathon and wants to run for Autism Speaks with the names of children on his singlet. He asked me to collect names for him so he can write each name on his Autism Speaks Singlet and run a mile for those children. The last 1.2 miles will be for his son, who goes the distance everyday for autism. Email firstname.lastname@example.org to submit your child’s name and/or send him a message of support. I have also established a donation page to support this military father beyond submitting your name to him to wear; http://events.autismspeaks.org/myevent/runforlennon
