Autism Speaks opens applications for research grants on central auditory processing disorder
November 1, 2022Autism Speaks, the global non-profit dedicated to promoting solutions, across the spectrum and throughout the life span, for the needs of people with autism and their families, today announced the opening of applications for a new cycle of research grants on the study of central auditory processing disorder (CAPD) (PDF) in autism.
With generous support from a Royal Arch Research Assistance grant, we anticipate funding one pilot research study, one predoctoral fellowship and one postdoctoral fellowship focused on understanding, evaluating and/or treating individuals with CAPD, particularly as it relates to autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
Royal Arch Masons International ranks among the leading charities helping children with CAPD, a condition that affects the ability to understand speech. People with CAPD can typically hear normally but have difficulty processing what they hear.
Last year’s grant recipients examined the ways that CAPD impacts language development in autistic children. This year, we seek research proposals that focus on the relationship between auditory processing and behavior, potential treatments to improve behavior outcomes and clinical approaches to evaluate and treat CAPD.
The pilot study will be funded at $60,000 for one year, the predoctoral fellowship will be awarded $40,000 per year for two years and the postdoctoral fellowship will be awarded $55,000 a year for two years.
