Autism Speaks’ Southern California Chapter is home to 24.5 million people throughout eight California counties, seven metropolitan areas and 3 major cities that include; Los Angeles, Anaheim, and San Diego. According to the CDC 1 in 59 children are on the autism spectrum disorder (ASD). For Southern California this means approximately 88k children are impacted by ASD and in need of resources and services.
Since our official chapter inception in 2006 (adopted regional boundaries in 2009) over 410k individuals have attended regional walks or events that have helped to raise 14.3 million dollars for science and research grants and 1 million dollars in grants for direct service providers. The chapter board alongside thousands of stakeholders have successfully advocated for two local Autism Treatment Networks and for the passage and signage of the California ABLE Act.
