Gov. Jay Nixon today announced that the State of Missouri has reached a $4.5 million settlement with Aetna Life Insurance Company and Aetna Health Insurance Company, which failed to provide the required coverage for diagnosis and treatment of autism spectrum disorders.

The Missouri legislature has approved the Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE) Act, Senate Bill 174, to allow families the opportunity to set up tax-exempt 529A savings accounts for disability-related expenses. The legislation filed by Sen. Eric Schmitt, Senate District 15, now goes to the governor’s desk for his action.
