CAN Announces Request for Applications for Autism Treatment Network

September 13, 2007

Cure Autism Now announces the upcoming release of a Request for Applications (RFA) for its Autism Treatment Network, a network of treatment and research centers dedicated to improving medical care for children and adolescents with autism. The RFA solicits letters of intent from academic institutions with active research and clinical programs for autism.

These sites should be interested in becoming part of a multi-site research network to develop evidence-based standards of care for medical treatment and evaluation of individuals with autism. The ATN began as a collaboration of five sites and now seeks to expand the number of participating institutions.
The RFA is targeted towards institutions that have an established autism research program and who actively provide on-going care for children and adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorders. The research team at each site must include a senior level researcher as Principal Investigator (MD and/or PhD), and at least one specialist in each of the following areas: pediatrics, child psychiatry, or pediatric neurology, pediatric gastroenterology, pediatric sleep medicine, and genetics/metabolics. Sites must identify a co-PI who is an MD if the PI is not a physician. Teams will have staff to assure and coordinate systematic data collection through a web-based data management system. Participating sites will be expected to take an active role in the research activities of the ATN, including participation in joint projects, development of new common projects, and dissemination of research results.
