NYU Langone Health Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Child Study Center

Autism Spectrum Disorder Clinical Service

UPDATED: February 25, 2019

The Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Service provides expert care for children, adolescents, and young adults with ASD and co-occurring behavioral, psychiatric, and medical conditions.

Clinical Services at the Child Study Center

Evaluation: We provide diagnostic, psychiatric, and neuropsychological evaluations using gold standard
assessments such as the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule™ (ADOS™-2).

Individual and Family Treatment: We offer evidence-based behavioral and cognitive behavioral treatments for co-occurring conditions like ADHD, anxiety, OCD, mood, and sleep disorders. We also offer training and support for caregivers and siblings.

Medication Evaluation and Management: Our child and adolescent psychiatrists and developmental behavioral pediatrician evaluate patients to determine if medication can be useful as a supplement to other evidence-based treatment.

Social Skills Groups: Our Social Learning Program offers group therapy for teens and young adults, with parent involvement. We use the evidence-based Program for the Education and Enrichment of Relational Skills (PEERS®) model.

Integrated Care at NYU Langone Health:
We work with world-class researchers and physicians across NYU Langone Health in Pediatrics, Neurology, Genetics, Rehabilitation (Speech, Occupational, and Physical Therapy),
Gastroenterology, and other specialties. We support families to set up recommended services and plan for transitions.

Family and Community Education:
Our parent and community workshops and webinars explore various topics related to ASD, ranging from managing behavior and anxiety to supporting siblings, and more.

Training and Consultation:
The ASD team provides one-time and ongoing professional training and consultation to schools and other organizations. Our work spans curriculum development, program design consultation and evaluation, and school observations.

Regional Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders (RCASD):
The RCASD for New York City is headquartered at the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. The RCASD is a state-funded organization that provides no-cost and low-cost
workshops, trainings, and consultation to schools, organizations, and agencies. For more information, contact csc.rcasd@nyumc.org.
