Walk Now for Autism Speaks Takes off in Tenn., Missouri and Utah

September 06, 2014

(Sept. 6, 2014) -- Thousands turned out for Walks in Nashville, Tenn, Southwest Missouri and the Salt Lake City area this weekend.

More than 2,000 attendees enjoyed the beautiful weather at Nashville's Centennial Park. The 7th Annual Walk was kicked off with live dancing, balloon animals, and face painting. Families enjoyed many activities including bounce houses provided by Leap Into Fun, a quiet sensory friendly tent sponsored by SouthPaw Enterprises, and more than two dozen resource vendors.  The event was emceed by local Fox TV reporter Erin Como.

Despite the rain, about 1000 people came out to the 10th annual Southwest Missouri Walk Now for Autism Speaks.  Heather Woodring, long time volunteer and team captain, welcomed everyone.  Long-time radio partner KTTS provided media support and emceed the event.  The Republic High School Lady Tigers, the top team in Southwest Missouri, were there selling their Autism Speaks soccer balls to raise even more funds for their team.  Team captains Jessica and Eli of "Eli’s Pit Crew" cut the banner to start the walk after KTTS counted the crowd down.

And in suburban Salt Lake City, crowds filled the South Towne Expo Center for the Utah Walk.  Participents browsed dozens of booths at the resource fair, including material on the latest therapies for treating autism.
