NEW YORK (May 2, 2014) -- New statistics from the Labor Department show positive growth in the job market. The US economy added 288,000 jobs in April while the unemployment rate fell to 6.3 percent, the lowest level since September 2008.
Employment within the autism community is a major concern. It is estimated that 85 percent of adults with autism in the United States are currently unemployed or underemployed. Among young adults between 21 and 26 years old, only 50 percent have ever had a paid job outside of their households.
Autism Speaks has developed a toolkit to help individuals with autism develop work skills and find employment.
