Dover, Del. (May 31, 2014) – We had beautiful weather all day today for the NASCAR Nationwide Series Race at Dover International Speedway. Prior to the start of the race, Jim Perkins, president of ACME Markets, presented Alec Elbert, Autism Speaks chief strategy and development officer, with a check for $10,000 as part of ACME’s campaign to raise funds for the autism community. ACME Markets also announced that during the month of June, if you purchase participating products in their dairy promotion section tagged with a “June is Diary Month” sign at any ACME store, ACME will donate a portion of the sales to Autism Speaks.
Later in the day, Denny Hamlin and the #11 FedEx team visited a local Toys“R”Us and loaded a FedEx truck with toys from the Toys“R”Us Ten Toys that Speak to Autism list. As part of its commitment to supporting individuals and families affected by autism, and in support of the third “Autism Speaks Day at the Races” event at Dover, FedEx is partnering with Toys“R”Us to give out the toys to the kids joining us at the race. Toys“R”Us is the national sponsor of Walk Now for Autism Speaks.
The day wrapped up that evening with track walk at the Monster Mile. $15,000 was raised in support ofthe NASCAR Foundation and Autism Speaks! The event kicked off with Denny and ESPN NASCAR analyst Brad Daugherty greeting the enthusiastic walkers. Joining them onstage were Autism Speaks’Alec Elbert and Lisa Goring, who both thanked the crowd for their support of the autism community.
