Tommy Hilfiger creates clothing line for people with special needs

December 22, 2017

In Spring 2016, iconic designer Tommy Hilfiger launched an adaptive clothing line for kids with autism and other special needs. That clothing line proved to be so popular that in Fall 2017, Tommy Hilfiger expanded his adaptive clothing line to include adult sizes.

Tommy Hilfiger, along with his wife Dee, are Autism Speaks board members and have long been autism advocates.

“My family has been affected by autism and the experience has enlightened me to their needs”, Hilfiger said in an interview with HollywoodLife.com. “I thought – wouldn’t it be great to take our (Tommy Hilfiger) styling and make it adaptable for children with special needs.”

The adaptive clothing line mirrors the style of the iconic Tommy Hilfiger brand but with slight adjustments like zippers and buttons replaced by velcro and magnetic buttons.

“I wanted to help these people fit in and feel better about themselves and it makes the team here feel great,” Hilfiger told HollywoodLife.com

Grammy-nominated songwriter and producer and Autism Speaks board member, Billy Mann is a dad to children with autism and he told HollywoodLife.com that the adaptive clothing line is a bit hit with his family.

“Opening and closing a button can be challenging and some kids have hypersensitivity and can’t tolerate certain fabrics like heavy denim,” Mann told HollywoodLife.com.

Tommy Hilfiger hints that the kids and adults adaptive clothing line is just getting started and welcomes feedback from people with disabilities and their families.
