Teen With Autism Meets his NASCAR Hero, Kasey Kahne

May 27, 2015

Sixteen-year-old Monty Veres loves NASCAR, and at the Charlotte Coca-Cola 600 race he met his favorite driver for a third time: Kasey Kahne.

The Wisconsin resident and his family travelled to North Carolina for the race. Veres first met Kahne in 2008 and spoke to the driver shortly after his 16th birthday on May 9.

"So far it's been thrilling for me. I had no clue that I was going to meet him until the last minute," Veres told NBC Charlotte

The surprise meeting happened at the driver's RV before driver introductions at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Monty's parents and sister were in on the surprise.

"Every time I get to see that big smile out of our son like that, it's so emotional," his father, Paul, told NBC Charlotte. Colleen Veres added, "You forget about all the struggles and everything he's been through and focus on the moment."
