June 7, 2014 - The Tampa Bay Rays hosted the 3rd Autism Speaks Day at this afternoon’s game against Seattle Mariners.
This year's event was our largest to date, attended by more than 500 friends of Autism Speaks.
Pre-game on field activity kicked off with a check presentation for $6,500 by The Rays to Autism Speaks volunteer leadership and staff. Sean Rodriguez, Rays shortstop and his wife, Giselle, parents of a child on the autism spectrum joined the Autism Speaks group for the activity.
Tampa's top Walk team captain, Puck Szanja, threw out the first ball of the game.
Stephanie Slagel sang the National Anthem.
Austin Maulsby was the honorary batboy
Caroline Gaboury opened the game calling "play ball".
Stephen & Sharon sang "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" during the 7th inning stretch.
Three 'Quiet Rooms' were available for families to escape the ballgame frenzy when needed. A special, sensory sensitive entrance was also made available.
Thank you Tampa Bay Rays for your support and wonderful friendship to the Autism Speaks Community!
