On January 29, 2015 dozens of prospective, returning and new team captains from southeastern Wisconsin attended the Milwaukee Walk Now for Autism Speaks 2015 Kickoff Party at the BMO Harris Bradley Center! Guests enjoyed food and beverages from Levy Restaurants and piano entertainment from Eric Look, an adult with autism.
The evening started with Eric playing his song “Better Place” which is a song he wrote about his own personal experiences with autism; Julie Davidson from B93.3, one of the Walk’s media partners, introduced Eric and got the party started. After Eric’s performance, team captains, event sponsors and service providers gathered to hear about all of the progress made in 2014 by our community and Autism Speaks. Attendees heard from Katie Madlung, Walk Chair, and Mary Beth Gahn, Logistics Co-Chair and learned about everything that is new to Milwaukee’s event for 2015. They also heard about team-building tips and fundraising ideas. The Walk event is moving Lund Van Dyke Registration outside to give our sponsors greater access to meeting families, adding a stroller check, and has two new fun zones on the Sam’s Club Walk Route, including the Wauwatosa Therapies Fun Zone. Team Captains can again enjoy the Text Message Alert Program to receive updates during the Walk event.
The evening ended with teams creating posters to share with our community on Walk day, and attendees collecting their Walk materials, Puzzle Pieces Campaign Tools and Light It Up Blue awareness posters!
