As the prevalence of autism increases we hear more and more stories of celebrities coming out about being on the autism spectrum. Here are some stories that were shared in 2013 that made a huge impact.
Academy Award Nominated Actor and Writer Dan Aykroyd has been contributing to films since the late 1970’s. He originally came out about his autism diagnosis in 2004. In a recent interview with the Daily Mail, Dan shared how his Asperger syndrome contributed to the inspiration for the hit movie Ghostbusters.

Singer Susan Boyle rose to fame in 2009 when she sang Les Miserables song, “I Dreamed a Dream” on Britain’s Got Talent. Since then she has had commercial success selling 19 Million albums worldwide. This year she revealed to the world of her diagnosis of Asperger Syndrome. She hopes to be an advocate for the cause in the future. In addition, Susan was #8 on our 10 Big Autism News Stories of 2013.
Actress Daryl Hannah has been a movie sensation since the early 1980’s starring in over 50 movies in her career. Although rumored to have autism for the past several years, Daryl recently came out about having autism and social anxiety issues this year.
