School District Offered Family Thousands to Keep Son with Autism out of School

August 29, 2013

The mother of David Swanson, a 21-year-old with autism and diabetes, says school districts in Yuba City, California have offered her as much as $86,000 to keep her son out of school and have barred him from attending classes with his private duty nurse since school began in mid-August. The mom, Heather Houston, says she would never give up her son’s rights to an education, even if they offered her a million dollars.
