National Capital Chapter Hosts Alpha Xi Deltas for Immersion Program

August 02, 2014

The National Capital Area chapter of Autism Speaks was proud to host a dynamic group of Alpha Xi Deltas for the second annual Summer Immersion Experience the week of July 28th. Young women from colleges across the country came to Washington DC and spent Monday through Friday learning all things related to autism as well as the importance of the four pillars of Autism Speaks. Activities included a trip to the Ivymount School in Rockville, Md., scheduled visits with Members of Congress and staff on Capitol Hill, a stop at Johns Hopkins Kennedy Krieger Institute, attending a House Ways and Means Committee hearing regarding the “ABLE Act” and volunteering at the National Capital Area Chapter office and the DC Bike to the Beach Charity Ride. The Alpha Xi Deltas celebrated the end of the week by giving presentations on all of the information they absorbed during their busy time in the district and look forward to continuing their involvement with Autism Speaks in the future. None of it would have been possible without the dedicated Alpha Xi Delta staff members and volunteers, especially Lindsay Eichelman, Kristen Elgie and Susan Mamber.
