(May 13, 2014) -- On May 9th, Charles R. Hadley Elementary, in conjunction with Autism Speaks, concluded their year-long expedition to promote awareness and fundraising for Autism with their second-annual "Puzzle Piece Parade." Principal Marie Menchero, along with Miami Board member and acting Principal for the Day, Manny Gaunaurd, kicked off the morning's events. Over 1,000 students, along with staff and parents, marched around the school dressed in blue, waving their inspiring signs and chanting along, as they promoted autism awareness for their community.
Throughout April, students and faculty promoted autism awareness by speaking in the morning announcements as well as participating in different learning activities in their classrooms. Several of their fundraising activities included a puzzle piece campaign, Dress in blue for World Autism Day, special t-shirt sales and donations from proud parents. These efforts were spear-headed by Pre-K SPED Teacher Lourdes de Dios, a long-time supporter and advocate for Autism Speaks.
