MegaFest Gets Underway in Dallas

August 28, 2013

MegaFest, a 3-day family-friendly festival which brings together T.D. Jakes Ministries events, got underway in Dallas, Texas, on Thursday. The festival closes on Saturday night with the Woman of Purpose Concert benefiting Autism Speaks. At a press conference on Wednesday, Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings began by thanking Bishop T.D. Jakes for choosing the great city of Dallas to host the nation’s largest inspirational festival for its three-day run. Mayor Rawlings also acknowledged the hard work the city has put together to accommodate the festival’s 50,000 plus attendees.

When Bishop Jakes took the podium, he stood before a packed room on their feet in roaring applause. Bishop Jakes humbly thanked all of the organizers and the city for helping him bring MegaFest to Dallas for the first time. Bishop Jakes stressed the importance of the festival which is to unite one another in family and faith and to empower and educate and even entertain. A number of big names will be participating including Oprah, Jennifer Hudson, Cedric the Entertainer, Steve Harvey and many more.

Bishop Jakes took a moment to thank partner organizations including Autism Speaks, and added the growing need to shine a light on autism in our communities. Autism Speaks will host its “Ask a Clinician” booth during MegaFest at the Family Expo’s Healthcare Pavilion on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Families who have concerns about their child’s early behaviors and would like more information about autism, are encouraged to come by to pick up materials and even sign up for a 10-minute appointment with an expert to discuss specific problems and receive guidance on the next steps. The Family Expo is open to the general public. For more visit
