Macy's 34th Street Flagship Store Will Light it Up Blue!

The iconic Macy's Herald Square flagship store will Light it Up Blue on World Autism Awareness Day, April 2!

"In recognition of the importance of raising awareness around autism, and acknowledging the great work you are doing for this important cause, we would like to help with the "Light It Up Blue" effort and would be delighted to light the exterior of our iconic flagship Herald Square store blue on World Autism Day April 2 for this year," Martine Reardon, chief marketing officer of Macy's Inc., wrote in an email.

Interesting Macy's Herald Square Facts

  • Built in 1902, The historic building was added to the National Register of Historic Places as a National Historic Landmark in 1978.
  • It was the first building in the world to feature modern-day escalators. Some of the wooden escalators are still in use today.
  • "America's Largest Department Store" covers an entire city block with 11 levels of retail.
