Saturday, June 14, 2003: Almost 600 families and friends of the National Alliance for Autism Research (NAAR) turned out on a beautiful sunny morning at Gray's Lake in Des Moines for the Second Annual Walk F.A.R. For NAAR event. The day was picture perfect – refreshments, clowns, bubbles for the kids and live music. Teams such as "St. Luke's Skywalkers" and "Tryin' for Tryston" (just to name two) came out with families, friends and awesome tee-shirts. Lt. Governor Sally Pederson and Jim Autry sponsored the event. Almost $50,000 was raised for autism research today in Iowa.
NAAR is grateful to the entire Iowa committee for their dedication and commitment to this event. NAAR thanks Co-Chairs Lisa Arechavaleta and Freda Owens for their leadership of the group. Plans are already underway for next June's event at Gray's Lake.
With today's event NAAR officially closes its Spring Walk campaign and all efforts turn to the Fall campaign and a large number of inaugural Walks.
Walk F.A.R. For NAAR is the signature fundraising event of the National Alliance for Autism Research and is the nation's largest Walk program dedicated to autism research.
