This incredible swimmer with autism is on his way to nationals

July 27, 2015

CBS Evening News correspondent Meg Oliver reported on Charles Cobbert, a promising 17-year-old swimmer who is on his way to competing in nationals. Cobbert is on the autism spectrum and he told Oliver that swimming helps him feel calm.

The report also suggests that, in some people with autism, repetitive aerobic activity like swimming or running may help reduce less-appropriate repetitive behaviors.

Autism Speaks also offers swimming grants to organizations that provide swimming and water safety lessons to award scholarships to financially disadvantaged individuals with autism.
