Humans of New York, a blog that collects and shares photos and stories of people from New York has several million followers recently highlighted the story of a father in New York with a 20-year-old nonverbal son named Jackson. Jackson has autism, and his father tells his story about the struggles he went through to become an advocate. Jackson’s father says “We’re all better people because Jackson is in our family.”

Later, Jackson’s father concluded saying,

“What was the hardest part about raising a child with autism? Not being sure if your child loves you. Do you know now? Yes. How? I know that he understands we are important to him. And I know that he understands he is important to us.”
