Build-a-Bear Workshop Helps Support Autism Research
April 23, 2007

Build-A-Bear Workshop is continuing its spirit of generosity by donating a portion of the proceeds from the sale of “Nikki Bear II” to NAAR. Each month of the year, the make-your-own stuffed animal company distributes money from the sale of these special bears to children's health programs and chose NAAR as its recipient for April—Autism Awareness Month. In addition, customers were able to purchase special “Huggable Hero” satin hearts for $1, with proceeds going to NAAR. We're proud to say the program helped raise more than $40,000.

"Based on feedback we have received from our guests, we know autism is a growing concern and that many families are affected by the disease," said Maxine Clark, founder and CEO of Build-A-Bear Workshop.

"The support of Build-A-Bear Workshop will help fund research aimed at unraveling the mysteries of autism and helping families whose lives are directly touched by this devastating disorder," says NAAR CEO Glenn Tringali. NAAR thanks everyone at Build-a-Bear for their support, as well as all their generous customers.

About Nikki's Bear
Build-A-Bear Workshop was inspired to create Nikki's Bear by Nikki Giampolo, a young girl who loved life, loved children and loved teddy bears. She expressed that love by giving bears and their hugs to all those around her. In 2002, at the age of 15, Nikki lost her life to cancer. Moved by Nikki's life and the way she lived it, a special bear, Nikki's Bear, was created in her honor to support children's cancer research and other children's health and wellness programs.
