Housing Complex for Adults with Autism Opens in Phoenix

June 19, 2014

A newly-refurbished apartment building in Phoneix, Ariz., will give adults with autism a chance to live more independent lives. The year-long project was undertaken by the Southwest Autism Research and Resource Center, First Place AZ and the Foundation for Senior Living.

SARRC co-founder Denise Resnick told KTAR News, "This property that is opening is co-locating 15 apartments for seniors and six two-bedroom apartments with young adults with autism.”

The Independent Living Program that these six adults with autism will be a part of is modeled after the Taft College Transition Program designed by Jeff Ross. Ross will oversee the new Phoenix housing program as executive director.

This housing complex is part of a larger project that will include a student academy and a leadership institute.
