(June 1, 2014) -- Thousands of walkers turned out Sunday in Hartford, Conn., Westchester County, NY and Waterloo, Canada to raise funds and awareness for Autism Speaks.
In Westchester, a crowd of around 15,000 gathered for an opening ceremony that included speeches by Autism Speaks President LIz Feld and national board member Laura Slatkin.
Leading our efforts throughout the year, Walk Co-Chairs, Sarah Kooluris and Robin Morris helped to cut the ribbon along with Feld and Slatkin.
The morning also featured a performance by the band Clueless featuring Ethan Walmark, a young boy with autism who rose to fame when his rendition of "Piano Man" went viral on YouTube back in 2012.
In Hartford, honorary Walk Chair, Senator Chris Murphy, manned the Autism Votes booth and greeted walkers.
There was plenty to celebrate Saturday in Indianapolis (despite the loss the Pacers endured the night before in the NBA playoffs). The sun was shining on the hundreds of walkers who gathered at the Indianapolis Walk at Celebration Plaza in White River State Park. Just hours before the big event, the fundraising total ticked past $100,000, well past its goal!
It's not too late to make a donation to these events. You can see the latest event information and make a general donation to an individual Walk by clicking on event links below.
