Chef with Autism to World: "Watch Me!"

October 23, 2013

Tom Dickinson inspired the crowd of 500-guests and top chefs at the Seventh Annual Autism Speaks to Wall Street Gala on Monday night.

“Just Watch Me,” he said, is the mantra that has gotten him through discrimination and low expectations. “Just Watch Me,” he said, has helped him hurdle every obstacle in his path as an adult affected by autism. It was clear - the chef, author and teacher was an inspiration to all in the grand ballroom at Cipriani.

Watch below as Franklin Becker (Top Chef Masters Season 5, Chef Gala Co-Chair) honors and introduces Tom Dickinson.

As he mentions, Tom “pays it forward” every chance he can – teaching children with autism, other individuals with disabilities, and parents - how to cook real, whole healthy foods. He has two goals – good health and empowerment.

Tom calls his cooking style “GFCF-fusion” or “Gluten-free casein-free fusion.”  His cookbooks are “Cooking with Class” and “Where There’s a Meal There’s a Way.” Read Heart of Autism: Chef Tom Dickinson Gives Back on our blog for more about Tom.
