Boy with Autism Spreading Awareness with Friendship Necklaces

February 24, 2014

Autism awareness necklaces made by 8-year-old Drew Elliot from Treasure Valley, Idaho are taking the autism community by storm! It all started when Drew, who has autism, told his mother at a restraurant that he didn't have a friend to wear the other half of his best friend necklace. A group of construction workers at a table nearby overheard and all of them offered to wear Drew's necklace if he made it himself.

That moment inspired Drew and his mom to create a Facebook page to share his friendship necklaces with the autism community and beyond. Drew and his mom do not charge for the necklaces but do accept donations for shipping charges. They ask that anyone who receives a necklace, send back a photo of them wearing it.
