A mom of a 15-year-old girl with autism has filed a complaint against United Airlines after her family was removed from their flight due to a "behavior issue," NBC News reported.
Dr. Donna Beegle of Tigard, Oregon, was flying back from Walt Disney World with her family and requested hot food for her daughter, Juliette, who has autism. After the family received the meal, the plane's pilot scheduled an emergency landing in Salt Lake City, where the family was escorted off the jet.
Autism Speaks' statement regarding the incident:
The incident aboard the United Airlines flight underscores the vital importance of awareness and education so that people are better equipped to recognize the signs of autism and support those with special needs.
