Autism Speaks Salutes Chicago Teen Spencer Savitz

February 06, 2013

CHICAGO (February 6, 2013) -- Autism Speaks is proud to recognize the achievements of Glencoe, Ill. teen Spencer Savitz who has been cited as a leader in his community for his extraordinary work on behalf of his younger brother Tyler. Family Service of Glencoe, a century-old community organization, has just named Spencer its 2013 Community Star!

As the leader of Team Tyler at Chicago-area Walk Now for Autism Speaks events, Spencer has helped raise nearly $600,000 to support autism research and awareness since 2008. He started his volunteer work with the Chicago Walk and then brought the message closer to home by working with Autism Speaks in 2011 to create the North Shore Walk.

Along the way, Spencer has lined up corporate sponsors, created team incentives and enlisted more volunteers to Team Tyler.

Spencer and Tyler's dad, Stuart Savitz, was named to the Autism Speaks Board of Directors last year.

Family Service of Glencoe will formally honor Spencer May 4 at its benefit in Ravinia.
