(BOSTON) Sunday was a great day for a run in East Boston and that is exactly what over 2,000 runners did bright and early at Suffolk Downs, where the Allstate Life Insurance Boston 13.1 Marathon benefiting Autism Speaks took place.
Team Up! with Autism Speaks had a team of more than 100 runners that have raised over $60,000 to further the mission of Autism Speaks. Runners from as far as Florida traveled in for the race, which is currently an annual tradition for Autism Speaks. The runners not only showed they had what it took to get to the finish line but they are out training and running each and every day to raise awareness for autism.
Matt Wilson returned to the race as captain for the Autism Speaks team. His leadership makes people want to run because he is dedicated to seeing each and every member of the team cross the finish line. That is what a true captain is: someone who puts others before self.
Our Autism Speaks New England Chapter formed Team Awesome, led by Autism Speaks staff, and have raised more than $3,500 through their race participation. Congratulations to all of the event finishers, especially those who completed their first race ever!
