Pittsburgh’s Annual Chef Gala hosted a dozen chefs from local restaurants in the area that joined us and prepared a dish for our guests based on a child on the spectrum that they were paired with. One of the Chefs, Donato Coluccio from Donato’s was paired up with Jayden who is a friendly nine year-old who loves to travel to places like Jamaica, Hawaii and the Bahamas and really enjoys having sleepovers with her friends. With her love of Italian food, specifically lasagna and garlic bread because it is soft and buttery, Chef Donato Coluccio, a big supporter of Autism Speaks, served up his famous cheesy lasagna and garlic cheese toast and has appropriately titled his creation “Jayden’s Lasagna & Garlic Bread.”
In addition to Janelle Hall from WTAE serving as our emcee, a few other Pittsburgh personalities helped us raise money at Chefs Create on November 13. Pittsburgh’s Favorites include: Ashley Dougherty from WTAE, The WDVE Morning Show including Randy Bauman, Bill Crawford, Valerie Porter & Mike Prisuta, James Bryant from The Pittsburgh Power arena football team, and Miss Pennsylvania Amanda Smith, who attended Carnegie University. Also joining us was the Mayor of Pittsburgh Bill Peduto.
The night was capped off by Michele and Mathew Buck who were our featured family. The attendees were given a glimpse into the lives of the Buck family and heard from them after viewing a short video which was a very emotional presentation.
When all was said and done the event raised over $80,000 to support Autism Speaks mission.
