"Acts of Love: Dreams" Stages a Record-Breaking Event

September 30, 2007

Cure Autism Now hosted its fourth Acts of Love event on Sept. 18 at the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles. "Acts of Love: Dreams" was presented by Cadillac and welcomed a lively crowd of 500 to one of the city's premier theater venues. An ensemble cast performed a celebration of dreams and dreamers, including the simple yet powerful dreams of those affected by autism. Through ticket sales, sponsorship and donations

the event has raised more than $185,000 for autism research and treatments—a record for this perennial event.

Gary Cole, Keith David, James Denton, Christopher Gorham, Samantha Mathis, Elizabeth Perkins, Richard Schiff, Amanda Seyfried, Talia Shire and Nita Whitaker formed a stunning ensemble cast for this year's show. The audience was treated to their special, one-night only readings of dreams from characters as diverse as Alice in Wonderland and Albert Einstein. Voice-over artist Don La Fontaine wove the readings together with his world-famous baritone. Gary Dourdan led a jazz ensemble that filled the house with rhythm. The singing trio of Ryan Bathé, Dionne Lea and Anita Dashiell-Sparks mesmerized the actors and audience alike and Nita Whitaker brought the house down with her rendition of "A Dream Out There with Your Name on It".

In addition to the inspiring show, sponsors and VIP guests were treated to a celebrity pre-show dinner at Tanino Ristorante where Chef Tanino himself prepared an authentic Italian menu. All guests enjoyed a pre-show reception that featured Plush Puffs gourmet marshmallows. Festivities continued after the show as Hint essence water delighted the crowd and Peet's Coffee & Tea provided sip-worthy beverages. Stockholm Krystal Vodka created the signature drink of the evening, the Dreamtini, and Everglo poured their Holland-made liqueur. Napa Valley Grille presented a sumptuous array of artisan cheeses, handmade desserts and wine selections designed by executive chef Anne Connes.

Special guests gracing the red carpet included Marc Blucas, Alicia Coppola, Catherine Dent, Scott Foley & Marika Dominiczyk, Jason George, Beth Grant, Michael Irby, Kenny Johnson, Sheila Kelley, David S. Lee, Max Martini, Mark Moses, Taylor Negron, Hunter Parrish, Donald & Lisa Pliner, Monica Potter, Theo Rossi, Jason Schwartzman, Grant Show, Bahar Soomekh, Shoshannah Stern, Brenda Strong and D.B. Sweeney.

"Acts of Love: Dreams" was a WordTheatre production created, produced, and directed by Cedering Fox. Mila Pesko served as associate producer and dramaturge. Cure Autism Now is proud to partner with the entertainment community to inspire creativity, heighten awareness and draw support for families affected by autism.
