October 09, 2013

New York law firm Mayerson & Associates is offering a $5,000 reward for the safe return of fourteen-year-old Avonte Oquendo, a young boy with autism from Queens, NY who has been missing since Friday afternoon

Avonte, who is nonverbal and according to his family has the mental capacity of a seven-year-old, was last seen on video surveillance running out the door of his school in Long Island City at approximately 12:45pm.

The announcement from Mayerson and Associates is below. Gary Mayerson, the founder of the firm, is a member of the Autism Speaks board of directors.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE $5,000 Reward

Offered for Safe Return of Avonte Oquendo

We are a New York City based law firm whose work is dedicated almost exclusively to the representation of individuals with autism (primarily in educational rights matters).  Like all New Yorkers, we are extremely concerned that, despite a massive search by the police and the local community, Avonte Oquendo, who first was reported missing from his school on Friday, October 4, 2013, still has not been located.   Compounding matters, Avonte apparently is nonverbal.

We cannot begin to imagine what Avonte’s family is going through.   Time is of the essence.  Our firm is offering a $5,000 reward to the individual who is credited for being directly responsible for locating Avonte and for his safe return to his parents.  For further information, please contact Gary Mayerson at:
