(July 4, 2014) - Over 2,000 runners and walkers celebrated our nation’s birthday by raising funds and awareness for the cause at the July 4th Autism Speaks 5k Run – 1 Mile Walk in Potomac, Maryland. The event raised $250,000 and counting and Congressman John Delaney of Maryland 6th’s district said a few words from the stage to demonstrate his proud support of the organization that works each day to change the future for those living with autism. A tremendous crowd of families came to the race to kick-off their holiday weekend as well as generous sponsors, including Presenting Sponsors PMGI and BOWA.
This was the 14th year for the annual July 4th 5k Run – 1 Mile Walk started by Susan Pereles, Race Director, Autism Speaks staff member, and aunt of Shant, her nephew with autism. The event has grown by leaps and bounds each year and will continue to do so, as parents and community members who have been touched by autism have already committed to once again crossing the finish line next year for Autism Speaks. Thenk you to everyone who volunteered and participated!
