2015 Broward Walk Now for Autism Speaks Kick Off Dinner Recap

July 29, 2015

On July 22, 2015 over 150 returning and new team captains, as well as prospect supporters, from across Broward County attended the Broward Walk Now for Autism Speaks 2015 Kickoff Dinner at Signature Grand Ballrooms in Davie! Guests arrived to an exquisitely decorated cocktail reception to mingle, share fundraising ideas, and collect their Walk materials such as team captain guides, puzzle piece pin ups, and donation brochures.

Nathalie Rodriguez of My 93.9 & 610 WIOD welcomed the audience and introduced the various speakers for the evening. Walk Chair Neal Shapiro recognized the 2015 Walk Committee and invited the whole audience to achieve the goal for the Broward Walk – $250,000! Team captains, event sponsors and service providers heard about team-building tips and suggestions to approach employers from Walk Vice Chair Scott Allman. JP Villanueva of South Florida Ford encouraged the audience to try fundraising ideas that are unique, like the #Ford4Autism social media campaign which donates $5 for every photo tagged with the hashtag. Sam Gelfand, long-time Autism Speaks supporter and self-advocate, gave a very moving and inspiring speech and received a standing ovation from the audience.

Attendees also were encouraged to register online on the Walk page, use the online fundraising tools available and matching gifts programs.

Corporate and media sponsors to date were acknowledged, including Nova Southeastern University, South Florida Ford,  Aon Risk Services – Florida, Publix Super Markets, FedEx, Butterfly Effects, Rand Marketing, Baptist Health South Florida, MCNA Dental, UM-NSU CARD, City Furniture, Univision 23, CBS 4, My 33, I Heart Radio, and Univision Radio to name a few.

The evening ended with a giant selfie taken from the stage with the whole audience.
