'Guardians of the Galaxy' Hero is Role Model for Boy with Autism

August 27, 2014

(August 27, 2014) -- Upworthy recently shared a tumblr post from tumblr author Merryweatherblue about how she took her brother with autism to see the new 'Guardians of the Galaxy" movie. During the movie, her brother noticed he shared a similiar quality with one of the superheroes named Drax (played by WWE Wrestler turned actor David Bautista).

Merryweatherblue writes,

"I took my little brother (who falls on the autism spectrum) to see Guardians of the Galaxy and after this scene, he lit up like a Christmas tree and screamed 'He's like me! He can't do metaphors!' And for the rest of the film my brother stared at Drax in a state of rapture.

So while I adored Guardians of the Galaxy as a great fun loving film with cool characters I can do nothing but thank Marvel Studios and Dave Bautista for finally bringing a superhero to the screen that my little brother can relate to."

(Here are photos from the scene in the film from Merryweatherblue's Tumblr Page)

Although Merryweatherblue acknowledges that Drax is probably not on the autism spectrum, her brother's realization has given him someone to look up to and allowed him to believe that individuals with autism can also be superheroes.

You can read the rest of Merryweatherblue's post on Tumblr here. We hope that Marvel, Dave Bautista and James Gunn (director of "Guardians of the Galaxy") see this boy's reaction to the film and respond to him.
