Surfers Environmental Alliance Holds Second Annual New York City SEA Paddle

August 20, 2008

The Second Annual SEA (Surfers Environmental Alliance) Paddle around the island of Manhattan was held Monday, August 18, 2008 with 80 registered participants and is on track to raise over $100,000 for autism organizations including Autism Speaks. Among the participants were professional surfers Tom Curren, Darrick Doerner, Gerry Lopez, Keith Malloy and Darian Boyle.

Paddlers made the 28.5 mile trek through the waters of the Hudson and East Rivers, beginning at New York's South Street Seaport and finishing at the North Cove Marina in Battery Park.

With almost twice the number of surfers participating as last year, SEA Executive Director Andrew Mencinsky was upbeat about the turnout and excited to head out again next year.
