José A. Gregorisch is an Autism Speaks Champion of Change, public safety leader, and Fire Marshal Division Chief for the City of Miramar. He uses his lived experience as an autistic adult and father to help expand understanding of autism across the lifespan, bringing visibility to perspectives that are often overlooked.

Diagnosed with autism later in life, José built a career in high-pressure emergency response, public safety, and communications before fully understanding his own place on the spectrum. His diagnosis came as his sons were being diagnosed, when he began to recognize the same traits in himself—deepening both his personal understanding and his sense of responsibility as both a father and advocate.

He speaks openly about his diagnosis to broaden understanding of what autism looks like across a lifetime and to help ensure that systems better support autistic people and their families at every stage of life.

In his professional role, José has led public information efforts and emergency operations, earning recognition from the State of Florida as Public Information Officer of the Year. He also serves on the Autism Speaks South Florida Executive Leadership Council, helping advance the organization’s mission at both the local and national levels.

In 2025, José shared his diagnosis publicly for the first time at the Autism Speaks Empower Summit, speaking to more than 300 autistic individuals and family members. In recognition of his service, he was awarded a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition in 2024.

Often seen in his signature cowboy hat with an Autism Speaks pin, José brings a visible and personal presence to his work, demonstrating that leadership can take many forms. As a Champion of Change, he is dedicated to promoting understanding, inclusion, and opportunity for autistic people of all ages.
