Autism Movement/Music Training Workshop addresses the current need for young adults and adults on the autism spectrum to have access to a fitness program, and more specifically a fitness program where they can be successful, socially interactive and that is based on movement and music because studies indicate, and Temple Grandin tells us that "music is not only processed in a different area of the brain, but that music combined with movement and that also incorporates repetitive rocking motion requiring a person to continually find and refind their balance stimulates areas of the brain where learning receptors are located." "Programs like Joanne's Autism Movement Therapy offer opportunities for our kids to develop the necessary and fundamental skills that benefit all our kids. Art saved my life!" - Temple Grandin, PhDThis proposal offers the Autism Movement Therapy training to participants free of charge who are interested in learning how to provide a movement and music program in their communities. Designed for educators, parents, administrators, paraprofessionals, mental health care professionals, caregivers, dancers, service providers (OT's, Speech and Language Pathologists, APE providers) individuals on the spectrum and anyone interested in working with the special needs population The workshop will teach planning and leading a developmentally age appropriate 45 minute "Time, Space & Energy" movement and music class for young adults and adults designed for use in a dance studio, community center, YMCA, Boys and Girls Club, residential home or classroom setting.
