SENSORY-FRIENDLY NIGHT OF PLAY

December 5, 2019 at 5:00 pm

Mid-Hudson Children’s Museum
75 North Water Street
Poughkeepsie, NY 12601
United States

Families with young children with autism and other sensory integration challenges are invited to explore Museum exhibits for this special night of play.  We will be offering a modified environment with reduced sound, designated quiet spaces, and extra visual signage and sensory aids.

MHCM is proud to have partnered with the Anderson Center for Autism to become an Autism Supportive Environment.  We aim to support families that have young children with autism by providing extra support aids, offering special assistance and periodically offering designating special museum hours for low-stimulation exploration.  We provide visual and auditory supports (“Social Stories,” flip book exhibit guides, communication cue cards, sunglasses, and noise-cancelling headphones) and have identified special “quiet spaces” within the Museum to support the specific needs of children with autism and other sensory integration challenges.

Cost is $10 per person, free for MHCM members.

Our Autism Response Team (ART) is specially trained to connect people with autism, their families, and caretakers to information, tools, and resources.
