Why I'm streaming for Autism Speaks

Today I'm thrilled to announce that I'll be partnering with Autism Speaks as an official ambassador. Many of you know my personal story and connection with autism.

My late brother Shaun, who sadly passed away two years ago at the age of 29, was autistic. I cannot express his impact on my life with words. No other person I've met has had such a profound effect on the way I look at the world and who I am today than Shaun.

The unique way in which he approached life - with joy, appreciation for the little things, and a genuine quality of authenticity in his character, will never be forgotten. Growing up with a little brother with autism could be tough at times. From the sideways glances people would give us, to the more aggressive (and ignorant) people who would simply scold Shaun or my parents for his behavioral issues or just him being different.

He was picked on and bullied relentlessly during a brief stint in public schools. He was called a retard, he was attacked, and even sent to the hospital after being punched in the fact by an unqualified caretaker.

My family wasn't always given the support we needed, and the roadmap was often very unclear. Shaun wasn't dealt the best hand in life. In addition to his mental disabilities he was also riddled with health issues that were beyond his control.

Throughout his life, though, he never complained, he never let these tribulations get him down despite things feeling so unfair. He loved his family, his music, movies, going for walks, and talking to friends (Shaun could really talk your ear off!).

Through my partnership with Autism Speaks, I hope to help my brother's memory live on by spreading awareness and fundraising to help individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities and their families get the support they need.

Starting in the 2019, I'll happy to pledge that I'll be donating half of all my stream donations to Autism Speaks. I'll also be donating a percentage of all my sponsored video income. I want to thank the amazing folks at Autism Speaks for this opportunity.

I'm so grateful to be in the position where I can help give back and raise awareness within the gaming community.

Much love, Ash.
