Dallas/Fort Worth Walk Now for Autism Speaks Recap

Wednesday, October 24, 2012 View Comments

Saturday’s 9th annual Walk Now for Autism Speaks in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex was the best yet!  Weather was perfect! Faces were beaming!  Families were celebrating!

The Music Learning Band, featuring young musicians from more than thirty DFW area schools performed from the stage, the drumline started off the Walk and a jazz band entertained along the Walk route.

Emcee, Jeff Jamison from CBS 11, shared the story of TSgt Nick Gordon, and the 5K satellite Walk he organized for that morning at Bagram Air Force Base in Afghanistan in honor of his 9 year old son, Nicky.  Then, 9 year old Konner Frazier from Merkel, TX sang the National Anthem.

This year’s Walk featured our first-ever MarketPlace which was a huge hit with the participants and a success for the vendors!

We have good news!  Bell, the yak who participated in our Walk this year, is expecting her new baby, Zak, in November!

A huge thank you to our Walk Chair, Haylie Miller for her leadership and dedication to the DFW Walk Now for Autism Speaks. Thank you to the 2012 committee members and Volunteers.
