Jacksonville Walk Now for Autism Speaks Recap

Tuesday, October 9, 2012 View Comments

The Jacksonville Walk Now for Autism Speaks blew their $60,000 goal out of the water coming into Walk day at over $66,000 with money still coming in! Over 2,000 people joined us for an amazing day in a brand new location for Autism Speaks – The Jacksonville Landing, right in the center of downtown.

The Landing was a great place to showcase our Resource Fair and Kids Area. The morning ended with everyone joining us for a Walk along the beautiful St Johns River.

The energy of the day was fabulous. Many families stayed after the Walk to play in the Kids area and browse the Resource Fair.  Families came out in their own team T-shirts. Leo Zanchettin dyed his hair blue after his friends met his fundraising challenge of hitting $4,000 by Walk day.

Our Walk Chair and captain of our top team, Mary Foley, led her team to an astounding $5,533 and counting!  As of Walk day, more than 15 teams had surpassed the $1,000 fundraising level! It was definitely a great day for Autism Speaks in Jacksonville.
