2012 Kansas City Walk Now for Autism Speaks Recap

Thursday, September 27, 2012 View Comments

It was a beautiful, windy day at Kansas Speedway!  The kids had fun dancing on stage, decorating projects provided by the amazing group at Home Depot, and lots of fun activities in the Resource Fair tent while their parents talked to the more than 30 organizations represented.  Participants were treated to refreshments courtesy of QuikTrip.  Dozens of local volunteers pitched in to help the event run smoothly including our friends from Alpha Xi Delta who came out in full force to volunteer with over 30 women in attendance from K-State 3 hours away!

Jason Nees led the Walk ceremonies with announcements and entertainment throughout the day provided by Ponch from Mix 93.3.  Ponch also shared his personal reason for supporting the mission of Autism Speaks as a parent of two children on the spectrum.  Top teams and grand club members were recognized on stage as well as encouragement to enjoy the rest of the festivities including a reminder to visit the Autism Votes booth to join our advocacy efforts.  Tiffani Davis had the prestigious honor of being recognized as the captain of the top team in Kansas City as well as being the top walker for the area!

Thank you to our wonderful sponsors: National Sponsors Toys "R" Us and Babies "R" Us; as well as Local Sponsors Pioneer Services, UMB Bank, MU Thompson Center for Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders and Brain Balance Achievement Centers of Overland Park.
