2012 Milwaukee Walk Now For Autism Speaks Recap

Thursday, May 10, 2012 View Comments

Saturday, April 28th was the 4th annual Milwaukee Walk Now for Autism Speaks held at Wisconsin’s State Fair Park. It was a cool day with wind and rain, but Wisconsin families are resilient and everyone who attended was in high spirits and prepared for the April showers. In fact, over 2,500 people were there to Walk and received information about autism from over 30 Resource Fair vendors and service providers. Walkers were entertained throughout the event by Danny Gokey’s foundation, Sophia’s Heart, and provided a free Gluten Free, Casein Free Lunch from Gooseberries Fresh Food Market; both entities donated their time and talents to our walkers!

Prevailing in walker total and having more than 250 teams would not be complete without superseding our fundraising goal; Wisconsinites raised over $174,000.00 for autism and the Autism Speaks mission! Special Thanks to Walk Chair Melissa Reed, Interim Walk Director Mallory Walsh and the fifteen members of our volunteer Walk Committee.  Our heartfelt gratitude goes out to our sponsors:  Gooseberries, Applied Behavior Analysts, Water Stone Bank, Heiser Automotive Group, Pettit National Ice Center, Impact Milwaukee, Robert W. Baird and Alpha Xi Delta Sorority.  Most importantly, we thank our walkers and community for coming out to support Milwaukee’s Walk Now for Autism Speaks and individuals with autism! We look forward to seeing you at different autism-related functions throughout the entire year and back again for Walk 2013.
