The 10th Annual Palm Beach Walk Now for Autism Speaks took place on the City Common in Downtown West Palm Beach on Sunday, March 6 with 186 teams and over 7000 people in attendance. This year’s event also included the 1st Annual Run Before the Walk Now for Autism Speaks with over 250 runners participating.
To date over $340,000 was raised for the Walk and over $8,000 was raised for the Run with donations continuing to come in making the 2011 Palm Beach Walk the most successful ever and well on the way to going over $400,000 by the time we finish! Honorary Chairs, Suzanne and Bob Wright, Co-Founders of Autism Speaks addressed the crowd with moving speeches, motivating everyone to Light It Up Blue on April 1 and 2 and to get involved advocacy efforts on a federal and state level.
Walk Co-Chairs Amy Schwartz, Denise Negron and Debra Rosenfeld along with their amazing Walk Committee and 300+ volunteers made sure that the day went off without a hitch. A huge thank you to all our Walk Sponsors including The Slomin Family Center, Lesser Lesser Landy and Smith, South Florida Ford and Evan Fetterman this year’s Corporate Visionary Sponsors and to Whole Foods Market, PGA for supplying drinks and snacks for helping to make the day so special!
Geoffrey the giraffe from Toys“R”Us was on hand along with two of the Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders and mascots from several of the Florida sports teams. From the FL Panthers Video Truck, the Prize Wheel from the FL Marlins to the Kids Korner sponsored by the Slomin Family Center that included bounce houses, face painters, other great activities and the WPB Fire Department fire truck being on hand for kids to graffiti there was something for everyone to enjoy.
Parents got great resource information from 30 vendors and sponsors. South Florida Ford Dealers provided an Official Pace Car for the start of the Walk and also made generous donations for everyone who logged into their Facebook page. DJ Gary Gore kept the crowd grooving to great music throughout the day.
