2010 North Central New Jersey Walk Now for Autism Speaks

Friday, October 22, 2010 View Comments

The eighth annual North/Central NJ Walk Now for Autism Speaks took place on Sunday, October 17 at Nomahegan Park in Cranford. It was a picture perfect day with sunny skies and colorful fall foliage. With 7500 walkers, and sponsors Virgin Mobile, Prudential, Quintiles, Pipeworks Services and CR Bard, the Walk has raised over $340,000 to date! Walkers enjoyed live music from the John Brown Band, crafts and activities by Home Depot Workshop and Crafts by Joanne.

The Autism Resource Fair represented 12 service providers and the Newly Diagnosed Tent was co-sponsored by Children’s Specialized Hospital and Autism Speaks. The Grand Club Fall Harvest Gazebo was appropriately adorned with bales of hay, pots of hearty mums, offerings of spiced apple cider and special treats by Trader Joe’s .

We even had a barbeque thanks to Twin Oaks Caterers back again this year with hot dogs and mac and cheese for everyone. North/Central NJ Walk Top Team, In Luke’s Corner led the walk past Central Jersey Police & Fire Pipes and Drums, around a 2-mile path through woods and along the main boulevard. The North/Central NJ Walk Planning Committee gathers together year after year to put together a flawless event which just keeps getting better. Thanks to the entire committee for all of their continued dedication to Autism Speaks and bringing the local community a day to remember.

Special thanks to Jennifer Love, Walk Chairperson and County Co-Chairs Eileen Ruggiero and Sharon Cohen.
